As the central hub for service learning on campus, the SLI provides community organizations with:Service Learning partners with the community to educate students. Our Coordinator of Community Partnerships, and College Liasons assist community partners and faculty in identifying and developing linkages between the service needs of the community organization and the learning objectives of CSUMB courses.

  • Community Partner Orientations are held each semester to familiarize potential partners with the service learning placement process
  • Training in service learning pedagogy and philosophy to help partners develop realistic expectations and become effective supervisors of students and facilitators of their learning
  • MySLP - is a site where students begin the  process of searching for a Community Partner, registering their site placement,  and begin the Learning Agreement process.  Faculty and community members may view SLI's database of registered Community Partners.
  • Guiding Principles for Managing Risks in Service Learning to promote student safety and clarify concerns and potential barriers to community partnership, such as fingerprinting and TB testing requirements.

For an overview of the entire partnership process view the Community Partner Guide.

The SLI also holds annual retreats, where students, faculty, and community partners join the SLI staff in evaluation and strategic planning.
