Salinas Chinatown PHLUSH Puts in a Porta-Potty
Salinas Chinatown PHLUSH brings a Solution to the Public Hygiene Problem
Recently, members of the Homeless Community on Soledad St. committed to be on the public potty patrol. A new group, Salinas Chinatown PHLUSH (Public Hygiene Let’s Us Stay Human) obtained funding to install a public toilet.
Working together with PHLUSH based in Portland, Oregon, CSU Monterey Bay, and the homeless Community the group has pledged to help maintain the toilet and remind folks that it’s only purpose is for “going potty”. Since previous efforts of public restrooms have gone sour due to needle use and other not-so-safe activities, the community has been warned that only one strike will take the toilet away.
PHLUSH is an all volunteer advocacy group based in Portland’s Old Town Chinatown. They collaborate with grass roots organizations, environmental activists and city planners. They believe that Toilet access is a human right and have inspired many with their passion for potty access, check out their website http://www.phlush.org/ to learn about Toilet Art, Ecological John’s, and The World Toilet Summit.
