The Soledad Street/Chinatown Renewal Project has made significant progress. The community garden has gotten off to a fantastic start as a result of significant community contributions. The micro enterprise program is progressing and the Women Alive! Cooperative continues to expand its silk-screening and T-shirt production activities, said CSUMB's Service Learning Institute Director Seth Pollack.
In fall 2006 the project office opened at 22 Soledad Street, Salinas, under the banner Soledad Street Community Learning Center. The garden was formally named Community Garden Park and the Board approved the new name for the project area: The Chinatown renewal Project.
Iris Peppard, Community Garden Coordinator, and numerous volunteers have transformed the Community Garden. Additions include a native plant border, organic vegetables, cobb benches and a hay bale tool shed. Learn how to become a Community Garden Volunteer! More >>
