Building Community
Students accepted into the (sl)2 Program complete an intensive initial training experience represented by the four-unit course SL295S: Service Learning Leadership Training, also known as the Summer of Service Leadership Academy (SoSLA). This program is designed to assist the development of students as responsible community participants and leaders in service learning.
Student leaders also receive ongoing support and development opportunities throughout their involvement in the (sl)2 Program. Through participation in weekly program meetings student leaders develop and sustain a learning community focused on improving their capacities in facilitation of service learning concepts and community initiatives.
In addition to weekly program meetings, student leaders engage in professional development opportunities such as training retreats, conferences, and service learning pedagogy studies.
